About Us

Portrait of Andrew Vargas, founder of Peninsula Ambulatory Medical Services PC.

Meet DR. VARGAS

At PAMS I strive to use the same principles I learned at UCSF in caring for patients with chronic painful conditions. My aim is to define and diagnose the underlying painful problem and apply interventional techniques to improve pain, function, and quality of life so my patients can enjoy the good health of their youth as long as possible. Targeted diagnostic injections, cortisone injections, platelet rich plasma injections, radiofrequency ablations, and neuromodulation techniques are my trained specialization areas. Every patient’s experience of pain is unique, and I take care to consider underlying medical problems to optimize treatment and outcomes. My practice takes a limited role in systemic medication management with careful patient selection and a tailored, multimodal approach aimed at eliminating use of opioid pain medications.

My role is to empower patients to engage in active treatments aimed at maintaining strength, flexibility, and improving the mind-body connection. Managing painful diagnoses is a team effort with the primary goal of rehabilitation. My partners in rehabilitation management include chiropractors, acupuncturists, physical therapists, and psychologists trained to engage our body and mind’s natural pathways for limiting the effects of pain.

Treatments

Regenerative medicine/PRP therapy

These are procedures/injections of the patient’s own blood into painful body parts like knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, neck, back to help reduce pain. Best for patients who are not on blood thinners and who are able to work with physical therapy to recover.

Targeted pain management procedures

These are other types of procedures meant to clarify/diagnose the underlying biological target or to provide long term improvement to allow for other therapies/treatments to be effective in managing pain/assist with lifestyle improvement.

Pain Rehabilitation

an individualized program focused not only on the biological aspects of pain like the diagnosis, but also in treatments focused on regaining an internal locus of power/control to enhance ability to engage in physical therapy and home exercise. This is a multidisciplinary task that incorporates outside providers.
